Moet et Chandon Brut

moetThis is one of the most popular Champagnes in the world, owned by Moet Hennessy. Unfortunately it’s all about branding with huge amounts of money spent on advertising and marketing. The actual quality of the Champagne is very poor. It lost a fair bit of market share to Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label although Moet are now fighting back with high profile sponsorship deals to get their Champagne back out in the public eye. I tried Moet in a blind tasting with 5 other Champagnes in a similar price bracket, and it came 6th! I simply can’t find anything good to say about it, especially as the price has risen so much recently. Expect to pay around £27 per bottle. On a plus point, there are some superb method traditionelle sparkling wines made from Champagne grapes (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Pinot Meunier) emerging from various new world countries, which will knock the socks off Moet - for half the price. I’d abandon Moet and give one of these a go, such as Morton Estates Sparkling Method Traditionelle Black Label 2000
