Spice Route Malabar 2006

spice route malabarSpice Route is a small winery near Malmesbury in the Swartland region producing some excellent full flavoured wines.

What’s it like?

Spice Route Malabar 2006 is the flagship wine of the estate. It’s an unusual blend of native French grapes – 64% Syrah, 15% Mouverdre, 9% Petite Syrah, 9% Grenache and 3% Tannat! All fermented separately then aged in French oak barrels for 14 months. The best barrels were then selected and blended, then the wine was returned to French oak for a further 12 months before bottling.

It’s big and powerful with intense fruit, a little spice and some vanilla on the really long finish. It’s a fantastic wine.
