Robertson Winery has grown to become South Africa’s third largest producer. Quite a remarkable feat for a grower owned winery, given the trend of the multinationals towards churning out vast quantities rather than quality. What’s it like?

In a word – fantastic. It’s been wood aged for 34 months producing a wine with full body and a silky smooth mouthfeel. There’s great fruit with sweet tannins and a lively acidity making it pair really well with food. Tremendous length too. It’s like a South African Amarone. I strongly advise you to try a bottle. Robertson Number One Constitution Road Shiraz 2006 is difficult to find in the UK as Robertson only make 5000 bottles per year, mainly for domestic consumption.
