Eikendal Classique Bordeaux Blend 2006
Eikendal Classique is the flagship wine from the Eikendal estate situated on the outskirts of Stellenbosch.
What’s it like?
In a word – fantastic. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, all vinified separately then aged for 24 months in new French oak barrels prior to blending. It was then further aged for another 6 months prior to bottling. It’s a big, rich savoury wine, full flavoured and very smooth with good balance and a long lingering finish. Awarded 4.5 stars by John Platter.
How much? Where from?
Eikendal Classique Bordeaux Blend 2006 is available from only a couple of good independent merchants. Expect to pay around £18 a bottle if you can find it somewhere. Even South African specialist SAwinesonline don’t stock it. The best deal for a bottle of the 06 at present appears to be www.goodwineonline.co.uk at £17.35. We didn’t find anybody else selling it by the single bottle!
