Jordan Cobblers Hill

jordan cobblers hillJordan Cobblers Hill is the flagship wine from this estate on the western edge of Stellenbosch. It’s a superb Bordeaux blend, really showcasing the quality of top end South African wines.

What’s it like?

In a word – superb. It’s big and rich, full flavoured, layered and structured. Beautifully smooth and well balanced with a very long finish. This is one of South Africa’s best affordable wines -  there are a lot of excellent wines coming out of South Africa these days, and this is right up there with the best from Stellenbosch alongside their friend and neighbour’s offering - the Zevenwacht Z Bordeaux Blend. I would be hard pushed to choose between them - normally I would opt for the Zevenwacht but the Cobblers Hill 05 is spectacular and was awarded 5 stars by John Platter, as opposed to the wine’s usual 4.5 stars (not bad to be awarded that every year either!)

How much? Where from?

Well Jordan Cobblers Hill  is available from a handful of good independent wine merchants, or you’ll find it in Jordan’s London restaurant - High Tymber. Retail expect to pay between £18 and £22, although the best deal we’ve found for the current vintage (2006) is with www.goodwineonline.co.uk at £17.99
