Jean Daneel Initial Red Blend 2007

Jean Daneel is one of the best winemakers in South Africa where he’s been winning awards for over 20 years. He recently set up his own new, tiny winery and is producing some stunning wines under his own label. He’s particularly famous for his outstanding Chenin Blancs which regulalrly win trophies for the best in South Africa, but he also makes some truly superb red blends too.

What’s it like?

Made from six different grape varieties. The classic Bordeaux varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot, plus Shiraz. All aged for 18 months in smallFrench oak barriques. Good fruit with a little spice, structured and elegant. 4 Stars from John Platter.
