Boekenhoutskloof Syrah
Boekenhoutskloof is one of South Africa’s best wineries. Winemaker Marc Kent is a bit of a legend in Franschoek where he continually wins John Platter’s highest award of 5 stars for the estate’s two flagship wines, Boekenhoutskloof Syrah and Boekenhoutskloof Cabernet Sauvignon. Both these wines are made in very limited quantities and are difficut to find.
What’s it like?
Awarded 4.5 Stars by Platter for the 2007 and made in tiny quantities, Boekenhoutskloof Syrah is very rare and highly sought after. Intense fruit with some white pepper, and very long finish. This wine is delicious now but will improve considerably if you can leave it for a year or two – or preferably even longer.
How much? Where can I buy it?
Boekenhoutskloof Syrah is only available from one or two good retailers although a few advertise it but don’t have the necessary clout with the winery to actually get hold of any! The best buy is at www.goodwineonline.co.uk at £24.98 per bottle and they actually have stock!
