Anura Pinotage 2007
Anura is a family owned operation run by Jenny and Tymen Bouma on the outskirts of Paarl. It began as a small vineyard growing grapes which they sold on to other winemakers. In 2001 they decided to make their own wines and have had great success. The vineyard is now 120 hectares and includes a restaurant, and cheese production (as so many of the South Africans do). Their wines are very good and they already have a very impressive array of awards.
What’s it like?
Fantastic! A cheap inferior pinotage can be awful and put people off trying other examples. However get a good one like this and it’s spectacular, so we can finally see why South Africans rave about them! It has big cherry fruit flavours with some spice and oak. It’s very smooth, full bodied with a long lingering finish. Delicious to savour slowly on it’s own or ideal with roasted or barbeque meats as it’s a powerful wine. One of the ABSA Top 10 Pinotages.
How much? Where from?
Anura Pinotage 2007 is very hard to find in the UK but is available from www.goodwineonline.co.uk at £13.78.
