Hugh Hamilton ‘The Mongrel’ Sangiovese Blend Mclaren Vale

hamilton-mongrelThe Hamilton winery is one of the oldest in Australia, dating back to 1837, and Hugh is the 5th generation of his family to run the place. It’s a family affair with his wife, Pam and daughter, Mary, and they make some quite exceptional wines.

What’s it Like?

86% Sangiovese and 14% Tempranillo from Australia sounds a bit risky to gamble £12 plus on, but Hugh has worked his magic and produced yet another lovely wine. Give it a try. There’s good fruit with body and a creamy mouthfeel. The wine’s subtle, elegant and structured, ideal with food. If you’re looking to try ‘something different’ from Australia this is it.
