Hugh Hamilton ‘The Mongrel’ Sangiovese Blend Mclaren Vale
The Hamilton winery is one of the oldest in Australia, dating back to 1837, and Hugh is the 5th generation of his family to run the place. It’s a family affair with his wife, Pam and daughter, Mary, and they make some quite exceptional wines.
What’s it Like?
86% Sangiovese and 14% Tempranillo from Australia sounds a bit risky to gamble £12 plus on, but Hugh has worked his magic and produced yet another lovely wine. Give it a try. There’s good fruit with body and a creamy mouthfeel. The wine’s subtle, elegant and structured, ideal with food. If you’re looking to try ‘something different’ from Australia this is it.
