Bodega San Huberto ‘Nina’ Petit Verdot 2004

nina-petit-verdotBodega San Huberto makes a range of wines at all price levels the majority of which are exported to the USA and Europe. The Nina range are their ‘ultra premium’ wines and are superb, not to say very hard to come by in the UK.

What’s it like?

Special – in a word. Petit Verdot is the unsung hero of fine red Bordeaux. The grapes for this wine are harvested, sorted and selected by hand. The wine is subsequently aged in small barriques for 12 months then a further 12 months in bottle prior to release. It’s a complex, structured, layered wine with a prominent nose of concentrated fruit, and an inky appearance, typical of the Petit Verdot. Strong fruit initially gives way to a slight spice, then a hint of pepper followed by vanilla on the finish. It’s wonderfully smooth and medium bodied with a silky mouth feel and great length.
